The School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS) of Stony Brook University seeks applicants for a Postdoctoral Associate position under Prof. Chris Gobler‘s supervision.
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
PhD in Biology, Marine Science, Bioinformatics and/or related field. Experience with processing and analyzing high-throughput sequencing data sets including transcriptomes, metatranscriptomes, metagenomes, and/or genomes. Experience with isolating nucleic acids for said analyses. Experience with qPCR, RT-qPCR.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience and publications within the related field. Experience with an array of molecular techniques and methods. Experience cultivating marine plankton; experience in laboratory and field-based experiments with marine plankton. Background in comparative genomics, experimental approaches with plankton, and/or harmful algal blooms.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.
- Write manuscripts and grants.
- Analyze high-throughput sequencing data sets (genomic and/or transcriptomic).
- Conduct experiments with plankton cultures and assemblages.
- Perform targeted gene expression assays.
- Perform qPCR assays.
- Perform PCR and sequencing on target genes and organisma.
- Other duties as assigned, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.
Special Notes: This is a part time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
