The School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in coastal planning and resilience.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. (or expected conferral of Ph.D. no later than August of 2019) in urban/regional planning, geography, landscape architecture, public policy, sustainability or a closely related discipline. Experience teaching at the college level. Capacity to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in urban planning, urban design and/or environmental policy with particular emphasis on issues related to coastal resilience.
Preferred Qualifications
Research/teaching experience relevant to issues of coastal resilience. Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate or graduate courses in urban/regional planning, urban design, environmental policy, or closely related areas; demonstrated excellence in research related to urban/regional planning, urban design, or environmental policy or closely related areas; compelling agenda for future research; experience obtaining and managing external research funding; experience with course and curriculum development; experience mentoring undergraduate or graduate students; experience and interest working in multi-disciplinary or trans-disciplinary environments; potential for collaboration within the school of School of Marine and Atmospheric Science to advance its research mission.
Responsibilities & Requirements
The position will include teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels, collaborating with interdisciplinary research and teaching teams, developing curriculum and performing service to the university and the broader community. The incumbent will be expected to publish in their academic field and secure research funding.
Special Notes
This is a tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated Start Date: August 2019.
